The Inconvenience

THE INCONVENIENCE: Theatre

The Inconvenience's theatre programming exposes cultural and environmental circumstances and their effects on the human condition. We believe theatre is a shared experience that enlightens, empowers, and inspires community. By collaboratively developing new works, reinventing existing gems, and enhancing the live theatre atmosphere through a multitude of art mediums, we invite our audiences to see something, start something, and transform the perspective.

Company writer Ike Holter's first two pieces from Post Traumatic and Strapped were turned into Chicagoland, a huge new musical that also happened to be the The Inconveneince's first event outside of our loft space.

  • Strapped New Play Festival

    March 25-27, 2010

The second festival explored the economic recession with a diverse display of characters--the formerly wealthy, the newly poor, and everybody else who's always stuck in between. All of the shows were workshopped at A Red Orchid Theatre with Erica Weiss, who served as the festival dramaturg. Several of the pieces in Strapped were well received and revived around the city; Caitlin Parrish's piece was remounted at Lifeline theatre, and a portion of Ike Holter's piece was turned into Chicagoland, the Inconvenience's first major theatrical offering outside its loft space.

  • Post-Traumatic Play Festival

A weekend-long short play festival, featuring work from Caitlin Parrish, Mark Mason, and Ike Holter. The first of our "theme" festivals--all the pieces were written in response to a "post-traumatic" event; loss of innocence, war, or being trapped in Boystown when you're really supposed to be in Wrigleyville.
